Not everyone is into a skincare, I get that, but for me not only is my skincare important for maintaining healthy, clean supple skin...but it's a chance to press "pause", and (without sounding weird and creepy) it's a ritual of self love.

To me beauty starts in the kitchen. Because what you eat affects your body, and your skin and hair are a part of your body.
If you're consuming foods which dehydrate, which cause inflammation etc, this will eventually show on your skin/hair. As much as I love skincare, no cream/lotion or potion is ever going to give you the same results as eating a fresh, real, wholesome diet.
When I eat good food, I feel good, and to me nothing is more beautiful than feeling good.

Recently I was having a conversation with a friend at work who also likes to use coconut oil. I asked her which brand she bought, and she said she brought hers for £1.99 from a local grocery store. First of all I think PRICE is indicative of the quality of the oil. She then showed me the bottle and I knew instantly it was not a good quality oil. I bit my tongue and didn't say anything, as I knew I would probably start sounding all preachy and she may think jeeez this woman this nuts!! Ha ha.
So for those who want to know here is my guide on how to choose a good quality oil.

I'm no oil expert by any means, but I wanted to share with you what I have learned over the years. As you can see from the title I will be writing a series on oils, and this is the first instalment. I first turned to oils after experiencing negative results from conventional drugstore skincare. I used to have terrible acne, and incredibly oily skin, and let me tell you it was bad! So of course I was always afraid to put any extra oil on my skin, instead I did everything I could to get rid of the oil, boy how wrong I was!

One of the most common complaints people have is that they do not have enough energy. I can relate to this, as I think we all can. I often hear people say how they would love to do x,y, or z but can't because they simply lack the energy to do so. This can lead to people turning to external stimulants, for example caffeine and sugar, to obtain the energy they are looking for. The danger with this is you can become too reliant on these stimulants. Relying on external stimulants for more energy is not sustainable or realistic.

You will regularly hear from the green/holistic beauty world that what we put on our skin is absorbed and enters into our bloodstream.
Then there are others who say that the skin acts as a great barrier to keep out chemicals, and they do not enter our bloodstream.
Errr hello... what about things like nicotine patches and hormone patches? These are all medications that are absorbed through the skin, so why would we not absorb the chemicals that we find in our moisturisers, shampoos, deodorant etc? And what about things like Castor oil packs? There are many people who use these to help break up scar tissue (among other things) and it works because the oil gets absorbed into the body.

What is the best diet? The healthiest, life promoting diet? This is a question I have pondered many times. There is a vast amount of contradictory information, and a large variety of people reporting positive results from this contradictory information! Who has got it right? The raw foodies? Vegans? The paleo diet? It can all get very confusing and overwhelming. So then I thought, rather than looking at all the differences these lifestyles have, would it not make more sense to ask what they all have in common?
